Integrated Islamic Schools (SIT) and Madrasahs are new models in the discourse on the development of formal educational institutions in Indonesia. As an indication, discussions on educational models in Indonesia from the establishment of the Indonesian state until the end of the 20th century only consisted of public schools and Islamic boarding schools. Public schools are educational institutions in Indonesia inherited from the Dutch colonists that teach general subjects, namely natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, and English. Meanwhile, Islamic boarding schools are traditional Islamic educational institutions characterized by the presence of a mosque, a religious teacher (kyai), students (santri), and the teaching of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning). Pesantren, initially, only taught 100% religious subjects. The integrated Islamic school and madrasah models both integrate religion and science in order to respond to the challenges of the global world. Islamic education is a means or furshoh to prepare Muslim communities who truly understand Islam. Here, Muslim educators have a duty and responsibility to impart their knowledge to their students, both through formal and non-formal education.Unduhan
